The legend and the history
Tom and Cathy Haggerty & Sons started TomCats Alley in 1989 as a Buy Sell Trade Shop on S. Washington St. in Bloomington, Indiana. This soon grew into a Pawn Shop as people needed money, but did not want to sell their items, and asked for loans. So we got the Pawn license and moved to 314 W. 7th St. (the old Mayflower building) for more room. Students and furniture were a part of the business. We recycled a lot of used items.
When the City of Bloomington wanted the space for a parking lot TomCats Pawn Shop was moved to it's present location at 750 W. 17th St.
TomCats Pawn Shop is the oldest original owners pawnshop in Bloomingon. We are family owned and operated since 1989. Helping people who want to sell good clean items they no longer need or use and helping people find bargains is fun. We also give collateral loans (pawns) to people who just need a short term loan. We get to help people out who need money and recycle items to people who need bargains in this economy.
Several years ago TomCats Pawn expanded to Bedford, Indiana as a lot of our customers are from south of Bloomington and needed help there. We strive to be fair and help people if we can. Recycling merchandise and bargains for all, what a great thing.
